Type 2 Wavy Hair:

Your Personal Care Hub

Soft, S-shaped waves that need light moisture, frizz control, and movement.

You’re in the right place if your hair doesn’t form full curls but naturally falls into gentle S-shaped waves—especially when it air-dries without brushing.

This page is your home base for Type 2 hair: routines, product picks, tools, and an in-depth ebook created just for wavy girls.

How to Confirm You’re Type 2 - And whether you're 2A, 2B, or 2C

2A – Soft, Loose Waves

  • Very gentle S-shape, often straight at the roots

  • Easily weighed down by heavy creams or oils

2B – Defined S-Waves

  • Clear S-pattern waves through mid-lengths and ends

  • Gets frizzy without light stylers or gel

2C – Strong, Wavy Almost-Curls

  • Deep, strong waves that almost form curls

  • Frizzes quickly and puffs up in humidity

Not an exact match? It’s normal to feel “between” 2A, 2B, and 2C—what matters is choosing products that keep your waves light, defined, and touchable.

Arrived here and still not sure if you're really a "Type 2"?

Type 2 Waves (2A / 2B / 2C)

We'll make this easy for you by suggesting 3 product bundles.

You can also choose any product from any bundle to create a combination that works best for you!

Each bundle has 4 steps

• Step 1 – Cleanse

Gently washes your scalp and hair to remove oil, sweat, and product buildup without stripping your natural oils. This is your “reset” step.

• Step 2 – Condition / Detangle

Adds slip and moisture so your waves are easy to detangle in the shower, reducing breakage and preparing your hair for styling.

• Step 3 – Style (cream/leave-in + gel where appropriate)

Lightweight creams, leave-ins, and gels that define your waves, fight frizz, and help your hair dry in a soft, natural pattern.

• Step 4 – Treat (Mask)

A richer, once-in-a-while treatment you use weekly or as needed to give your hair a deep moisture boost and keep it healthy over time.

OK! Let's get started on finding the best combination for YOU!!

Type 2 Curls - FAQ (Quick Answers)

  • 1. “What’s a simple weekly and monthly routine for 2A, 2B, and 2C waves?”

    Short answer:
Keep it light, keep it regular, and don’t overload wash days.

    Weekly baseline (all Type 2):

    • Wash: 2–3× per week with a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo

    • Condition: Every wash day, focusing from mid-lengths to ends

    • Style: After every wash:

      • Light leave-in (optional for 2A, helpful for 2B/2C)

      • Foam or light cream

      • Gel (if you want hold and frizz control)

    Monthly add-ons:

    • Clarifying wash (1× / month)
To remove buildup from stylers, dry shampoo, and hard water. Follow with a good conditioner.

    • Deep conditioning (every 3–4 weeks)

      • 2A: super light mask, short time (5–10 min)

      • 2B: regular moisture mask, 10–15 min

      • 2C: richer mask, maybe 15–20 min

    Tiny variations by subtype:

    • 2A – less frequent washing is okay if scalp allows, very light products, minimal cream.

    • 2B – solid “middle” routine: regular conditioner, cream/foam + gel.

    • 2C – can benefit from a bit more moisture & gel, and slightly more frequent deep conditioning.

  • 2. “How much product should I use so my waves stay soft—not greasy or flat?”

    Rule of thumb:
Start with less than you think, emulsify with water in your hands, and only add more if hair still feels dry or frizzy.

    For shoulder-length, average density waves:

    • Leave-in conditioner

      • 2A: pea–nickel size

      • 2B: nickel size

      • 2C: nickel–quarter size
Apply from mid-lengths down, never directly at the roots.

    • Curl cream or foam

      • Cream:

        • 2A: pea-nickel size total

        • 2B: nickel size

        • 2C: nickel–quarter size

      • Foam/mousse:

        • 2A: 1 golf-ball puff

        • 2B/2C: 1–2 golf-ball puffs
Always emulsify in your hands first, then rake/scrunch in.

    • Gel

      • 2A: about a nickel-size puddle

      • 2B: nickel–quarter size

      • 2C: quarter size
Spread it over your palms, then scrunch into wet hair.

    Simple test:

    • If your waves feel coated, stiff, or greasy → too much product or too heavy a formula.

    • If your waves look frizzy, dry, or fall flat after 1–2 hours → you probably need a touch more product or slightly stronger hold.

  • 3. “What’s the best way to layer light creams, foams, and gels (with and without diffusing)?”

Think in layers: hydration → definition → hold.

    A. Ultra-light routine (fine 2A / 2B, air dry or diffuse)

    1. On soaking wet hair:

      • Optional tiny bit of leave-in, mostly on ends.

    2. Foam or mousse:

      • Scrunch into mid-lengths and ends.

    3. Gel (small amount):

      • Scrunch over the foam layer for hold.

    4. Drying:

      • Air dry or diffuse on low heat/low speed, touching as little as possible.

This is your “weightless waves” map.

    B. More definition routine (2B/2C or when you want extra hold)

    1. Leave-in:

      • Apply to mid-lengths and ends on wet hair.

    2. Light curl cream:

      • Rake in a small amount, then scrunch.

    3. Gel:

      • Scrunch in last for hold and frizz control.

    4. Drying:

      • “Plop” briefly in a t-shirt or microfiber towel (5–10 minutes)

      • Then diffuse on low/medium heat until 80–90% dry.

No-diffuse (air-dry) version: follow the same steps but skip plopping or diffuse very minimally so you don’t stretch your wave pattern.

  • 4. “How do I fix stringy ends, flat roots, and halo frizz?”

    A. Stringy ends

    Common causes:

    • Too little water when applying products

    • Combing/brushing after stylers

    • Too much gel on the ends only

    Fixes:

    • Apply products on very wet hair so waves clump naturally.

    • Detangle with conditioner in the shower, then don’t brush after.

    • Use a lighter gel and scrunch it in with open hands, not squeezing only the very ends.

    • At the end, gently scrunch out the crunch with a bit of light oil or serum once hair is fully dry.

    B. Flat roots

    Common causes:

    • Heavy products too close to the scalp

    • No volume support while drying

    • Product buildup weighing hair down

    Fixes:

    • Keep creams/leave-ins from mid-lengths down, not at the roots.

    • Try root clips or diffuse with your head upside down or to the side to lift roots.

    • Use a volumizing foam mainly at the roots and lengths before gel.

    • Clarify about once a month if hair feels heavy, coated, or dull.

    C. Halo frizz (frizz mainly on the outer layer)

    Common causes:

    • Rough towel drying

    • Not enough moisture on the top layer

    • Sleeping on cotton pillowcases or going to bed with hair unprotected

    Fixes:

    • Swap to a microfiber towel or cotton T-shirt and gently blot/scrunch instead of rubbing.

    • After applying stylers, smooth a tiny bit of leave-in or gel over the top layer with praying-hands motion.

    • Sleep on a satin pillowcase or use a satin bonnet or loose pineapple.

    • On refresh days, use a refresh spray + tiny bit of foam or lightweight cream, then smooth/scrunch only where needed.
